Colombian Open HG Nationals – 07/12-19

Friday, March 28th, 2008

Once again this year the Colombian HG Nationals will be an Open – FAI category 2 event held in the wonderful town of Roldanillo – Valle (July 12-19).
The weather is flyable all year round, the flying is nice, the atmosphere is great and the country is wonderful!
We would like to encourage foreign pilots to come visit and fly in our country, while having the opportunity to get points for the WPRS, as an attempt to give our sport a boost and to get more people involved in it, as well as the private and the public sector.

Another sad farewell

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Fulvio Pacher, brother of Jimmy and importer of Gin Gliders in Italy, was killed in a tandem accident on Col de Rossi, Marmolada, on February 22nd. It appears that the passenger tried to stop the launch and the pair slipped on a snowy slope before swinging into a cliff. The passenger sadly also died.
Our thoughts go out to their families and friends.

Infinity Tumble Record Tumbled

Chrigel Maurer infinity tumbling

Chrigel Maurer infinity tumbling

Chrigel Maurer, the triple PWC champion, ex-European paragliding champion and Advance’s all round wonder kid has just proven that he’s got the hang of the Infinite Tumble by breaking the World record with a stomach churning 155 consecutive tumbles.

Having Launched from the summit of the Jungfraujoch and glided past the Mönch and the Eiger, Maurer went in to action above Grindlewald and broke Antoine Montant’s record of 122 Infinite Tumbles that was set in front of a rapturous crowd at the St Hilaire festival last September.

Whether Montant or Raul Rodriguez, the previous two holders of the Infinite Tumble World record, will reply with an even dizzier set of revolutions remains to be seen. More likely is that one of the new forces in acro like PĂ l TakĂ ts will fancy a stab at holding down their lunch longer than anyone else has before them.

World Championship Cancelled due to lack of sponsors

Friday, March 21st, 2008

The Voss Hang gliding and paragliding club and the Norwegian Air sport Federation have had to take the difficult decision to cancel the 2nd FAI World Championship for Aerobatic Hang gliding and Paragliding, to have been held at Voss from August 22nd – 31st 2008.

They are hoping that by taking this decision now, there may be time for another host to be found for the 2008 event.
