Quick-out karabiner and speed bar separation system
Finsterwalder-Charly have made improvements to the quick-out 1998 karabiner, updating the security sleeves to make operation easier when wearing gloves.
The quick-outs were designed to allow separation of the paraglider from the system when the risers are still tight, and possible uses include strong-wind or water landings, or to allow the use of a steerable reserve, unencumbered by the paraglider.
The Quick Out karabiner (price/ pair €99.90) has a breaking load of 4000 kg. It is tested for fatigue endurability and has no service life limitation.
However, it requires more maintenance than normal paraglider karabiners and particular care following exposure to sea water, sand, dust and must be fitted by a trained expert.
When using the Quick Out karabiner in paragliders with accelerator systems, a separation system is required so that when releasing the Quick Out karabiners, the accelerator is simultaneously also released.
In the past, a system has been used based on a patented shackle or clevis. Since most paraglider accelerators are fitted with brummel hooks, a suitable accelerator separation system with brummel hooks has now been developed.
The brummel hook separation system is offered as an alternative to the customary patented shackle/clevis separation system.
The company say it has the following advantages:
- It can be attached directly to accelerator systems with brummel hooks.
- It does not become damaged if operated when the accelerator is being used.
- It is inexpensive : € 16
