Niviuk welcome Urban Valic

Urban’s recent results have proven beyond doubt that he is a world-class pilot, and now Niviuk are very pleased to officially welcome him to their team.

He will work closely with Olivier Nef in the design and testing of the gliders and also represent Niviuk in the world competition arena.

Nissan Outdoor Games 2008

5 teams, 5 sports and 5 days to make a 5-minute film: a competition like no other…

The normally quiet Alpine resort of Interlarken, Switzerland, is to host a film competition like no other, on 4 - 5 July this year.

5 teams representing 5 sports (kayaking, mountain-biking, climbing, paragliding and base jumping) will be hooking up with sound and video experts, and have 5 days (30 June to 4 July) to make a top Extreme Sports film. The public is also invited to join in and try out these sporting disciplines, right in the heart of Interlaken.

Once the filming and editing is complete, the film entries will judged by a jury comprising professional sportsmen and audiovisual specialists, and will then be projected to a crowd of Outdoor Games enthusiasts on huge wide screens in the centre of Interlaken, on Saturday evening.Ā Terraces, bars and restaurants will join in the festivities for some unforgettable and great summer evenings. There is prize money of 50 000 USD!

First Alatus Trophy

The Delta Club Volo Libero Trentino (Italy) are proud to invite hang glider and paraglider entries to the “1° ALATUS TROPHY”.

The competition will be held in the City of Levico Terme - Trentino - Italy, from 16 to 18 May 2008 and will be an FAI category 2 event.

During the three competition days, spectators will be entertained on the shores of Lake Levico by paraglider acro displays and a spot-landing comp on the lake. Manfred Ruhmer will be present.

Entry fee is 60 Euros before 6th May, or 80 Euros after.

Premiere of “lift_” at Torrey Pines, 26 April

The premiere of the Acrotwins’ new film, “lift_”, will be shown at Torrey Pines Gliderport April 26, at 6pm. There will be a BBQ, beer, an outside projection over looking the ocean on takeoff, and Tim Green director of “lift_” presenting the film.

Red Bull Jungfrau-Stafette 2008

The Jungfrau-Stafette created a sensation in Switzerland in the 1930s. Revived last year for the first time, the 21st Century version is just as amazing.

The adventure, a relay race involving 13 stages on land, water and in the air, will traverse Switzerland once again beginning on 4th October. More than 500 athletes will cover the 533-kilometre route on foot, on wheels, on skis and in aeroplanes and kayaks, to try to win the Silver Eagle trophy.

Mac Magus XC certified to LTF (DHV) 2-3

Certification of all sizes of Mac’s magus XC is now complete, and it is said to fall in the middle of the 2-3 category.

A high performance glider designed for Cross Country flights, it has been developed for use by experienced pilots. The Magus XC has an aspect ratio of 6.2 and incorporates the Magus 5 ́s airfoils to enhance glide performance both at trim and on accelerated flight. Other design features are a reinforcement flap system in the centre of the canopy, which combined with the bunching system on the wing tips give precise handling with outstanding climbing performance.

Absolute chamonix, new paragliding and speedriding school

Absolute Chamonix is a new paragliding and speedriding school run by Caroline Brille, French World Cup pilot since 2000.

The school offers training, private lessons, cross country guiding from Chamonix to Annecy and high mountain flight guiding. During the ski season, they now offer speedriding lessons, from a basic introduction to high mountain speedriding.

Apco Chairbag Integral

Apco have made a new addition to the Chairbag range of lightweight convertible harness / backpacks.

The Chairbag Integral comes with an integrated emergency parachute compartment under the seat and newly developed lightweight buckles, making the harness even lighter and more versatile than the original. It has a full size seat plate, Cygnus airbag system with a specially designed, one-way air valve and a new built-in bridle for emergency parachute connection, yet the resultant package is still only 2.5kg in weight.

Turn the inside-out and it becomes the rucksack, featuring a professional carrying system with gel padded shoulder straps and waist belt.
