The sixth annual incarnation of the popular New Zealand festival takes place from 27 December 2008 to 10 January 2009.
It hosts two cross country competitions: the first, the Wanaka Cross Country Open, is all about experienced pilots having a good time and creating a fun, friendly learning environment for lower airtime pilots. The competition format is as free and easy as possible: take off from any site, at any time and fly as far as you can, multiple attempts allowed. No GPS is necessary (unless you want to enter your flight into the NZ league) and a mentor will be assigned to you if you ask for it, to advise on sites and anything else you may need help with. There will be seminars on various topics. And all this comes at the bargain entry price of only NZ$15.
The second comp is the FAI Cat 2 New Zealand PG Nationals, open to any qualified pilot with 40 hours’ experience. The cost is NZ$90 before 1 November, or NZ$120 after.
