Regarding Steve's comment 'get over the regulation and fly the comp if you don't like the rules, in future don't go'...

Didn't you actually read the blog, Steve? - I said 'in the spirit of the rules I gave up drinking three weeks ago'. 'should I be so inclined (I'm not as I don't like it) a large reefer...'

No danger of me failing anything unless Tetley Tea Bags, tacos and chilli sauce are on the banned list.

I think it is important to highlight aspects of competition life like this and I think it is valid to point out that the type of personalities that can deal with top level flying are very often the same type of personalities who may operate on the margins of everday social rules. I then think it is valid to ask whether the public would like to see the fastest and most creative pilots with all their faults or a filtered sub-set who will toe the line. This is a general, and I think important, question and nothing to do with me personally - I'm not having a dig at the rules because they in ANY way effect me.

It's odd how many people seem to assume that the writer of a provocative article is always banging on about it because they have their own agenda. I don't, although I suspect Steve might...

Let's face it if we needed to look at the type of difficult personality who makes a great competition pilot we need not look much further than your good self, Steve!

That's joke before you bite my head off :-)

bloody hell Mark what a load of bollocks, but I am sure you are just giving the readers something dark and provocative to mull over, if not and you are serious here is my take on it.
you are representing your country this is not some local comp you have paid to enter, get over the regulation and fly the comp if you don't like the rules, in future don't go!
you may, if you ignore the bureaucracy put the teams results at risk.
I have no problem with The odd spliff or a bottle of wine or two of an evening on my own time, but with the 3 nominated pilot rule if you are one of them a DSQ is the end of the comp for the other team members.

all the best Steve.e
