Lakes Charity Classic
The weekend of 4 – 7 June, the fields on the shores of the Lake District’s Buttermere lake will be thronging with pilots and their families, there to enjoy what organisers describe as ‘THE UK’s free flying event of the Summer – the Lakes Charity Classic 2009′.
Kicking off on Friday 5 June with two days’ paragliding competitions, the air will then give way to other aircraft from 5pm on the Saturday, as the Buttermere Air Show, starring the mayor of Keswick in his gyroplane, will entertain the crowds. Speed flyers and acro pilots will then be transported by chopper to a high take off above the lake, to compete in this year’s ‘British Acro Championship’, which promises to be the best ever with some of the world’s top acro pilots in attendance and Infinite tumbles on the menu. Once the acro pilots are all back to earth safely, Mark Weir and his Gazelle Helicopter will finish the display by making the valley reverberate to the sound of stressed rotor blades whilst he puts his machine through some mind-boggling manoeuvres.
Once everyone has got their breath back, the amps and speakers will be cranked up as five bands take their turn on the stage in a night of music and frivolity that only your friendly Cumbrians can muster. DJs will then take over to keep the party bopping until around 2 am. There will be a licensed bar with locally brewed ale, including their own, now famous, specially-made ‘Thirst Flight’ paragliding ale, as well as wine, vodka, soft drinks etc.
This is an invitation from the organisers to “Please pack your tent, bring your friends and families and help us to turn what promises the be the best LCC and Buttermere Bash so far into greatest free flying event of 2009, and it’s all for charity. If you miss it you will never forgive yourself, and we won’t forgive you either!”
