A team of Canadian mountaineers have their sights set on summitting Cerro Aconcagua (6,962m) in the Argentinian Andes. Five of them will then paraglide off, in aid of prostate cancer research.
The group of men, all in their late forties or fifties, will embark on the fourteen day trek to the Stone Sentinel on 20 December 2009. They are raising money for the Vancouver Prostate Centre and VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation, and awareness of the disease which affects one in six Canadian men in their fifties.
The team will be using SPOT devices to track their progress, which can be followed here once the mission has begun.
They are appealing for personal sponsors to help them raise US$ 100,000 for the charity, and also for manufacturers who may be able to sponsor them with the clothing and materials required for the venture.
