The FIA El Yelmo International Air film festival in Andalucia, Spain, takes place on 1 – 4 July 2010. The deadline for submissions to the film and photo contests is 18 June.
The format of the festival, held in Sierra de Segura, is free flying and air displays in the Andalucian sunshine by day, or watching films in air-conditioned comfort, then as the evening falls you can enjoy open air screenings in the ‘Cinema of Stars’. The Spanish are not known for going to bed early, and you can be sure the concerts and evening festivities will go on until late.
There is prize money up for grabs for the best films and photos in several categories – see the FIA El Yelmo website for details.
As well as the film side of things, there will be an air-conditioned trade fair, talks and seminars, run-fly paraglider mountain races (pro and fun categories), helicopter and tandem paraglider & paramotor rides, and plenty of children’s activities.
To top it all, the list of famous names entertaining the crowds in the skies is long: Paraglider acro will be provided by the Acro Twins and SAT team; Mathieu Rouanet, Ramon Morillas and the Sky Trio will be showing what they can do with a wing and a paramotor, and classic aerobatic aircraft, originally from the second world war era, will be pulling off breathtaking stunts overhead.
