Gerolf Heinrichs wins European Hang Gliding Championships 2010
Austrian Gerolf Heinrichs has won the 17th FAI European Hang Gliding Championships, held in Ager, Spain, which finished on Saturday (they ran 10 – 24 July 2010). Fellow Austrian Tom Weissenberger was second, and Attila Bertok (HU) third. All three are Moyes pilots.
Julia Kucherenko (RU) was the first female and 25th overall, but with not enough women pilots to validate a women’s championship Germany’s Corinna Schwiegershausen remains the official European hang gliding female champion. Corinna is also the current World Champion.
Ager saw great conditions. Nine tasks were flown, ranging from 67 km to 193 km, offering a range of conditions from weak, stable days with low cloudbases at the beginning of the comp, to good, strong climbs and high cloudbase days allowing nearly 200 km to be flown in three-and-a-half hours by the top pilots.
