The world’s toughest adventure paragliding race has announced two late additions to its athlete list: Austria’s Paul Guschlbauer and Britain’s Jon Chambers.
The pilots were named as the 31st and 32nd athletes to participate in the Red Bull X-Alps 2011.
Organisers of the Red Bull X-Alps explained the late additions:
“The decision to invite 27-year-old Guschlbauer and 35-year-old Chambers to take part as the fourth Austrian and second Briton respectively was made by the Race Committee due to the large number of high quality of applications from those nations.”
And race boss Hannes Arch said: “For the 2011 race, we had so many high quality applications that we decided to take two extra athletes in addition to the normal 30. We want to guarantee the quailty of the event and encourage the strongest possible level of competition.
“The selection of Paul and Jon is based on their excellent sporting abilities, experience and professionalism.”
According to John’s Niviuk profile he started flying in 1992 aged 16 and won the Serial Class competition in the 2008 British Championships.
