Tirante A – Adventure Instruments from Brazil have just released their first altimeter-vario unit, the TAV-1000. It has a bold design and the company say is very easy to use and to read, with a tough case to withstand any accidental knocks.
The TAV-1000 has three altimeters, plus digital and analogue variometers whose sensitivity can be set to low, medium or high depending on the thermal strength of the day. A ball compass is a great asset, and barometer and thermometer, clock and calendar are inbuilt too.
The unit’s Smart Start functionality means that it can sense when you have launched, and will automatically reset altimeter 2, and start your flight time and log. Its internal log book can store up to 100 flights, logging maximum ascent and descent rates, launch altitude, max. and min. altitudes, flight duration, date and time.
It runs off two AA batteries (supplied) and automatically powers off after ten minutes’ inactivity to preserve battery life.
The TAV-1000 is delivered with it own protective case and a leg strap, as well as three stickers to adjust the compass’ magnetic declination.
