Cloudbase Foundation appeal for Ghana

The Paragliding World Cup Americas champion Nick Greece is appealing for donations to the Cloudbase Foundation, to help support an orphanage in Ghana.

Nick, who is also editor of the USA’s free-flight association magazine, is heading to the West African country on 19 April to fly in the country’s annual government-sponsored paragliding festival in the village of Nkawkaw.

Nick said: “The Ghanian government brings us to Ghana to fly tandems during an Easter festival. While we are there spreading joy for many through flight, we also try to help those on the ground.”

After flying at the event in 2010 Nick got involved with the Cloudbase Foundation, a US-based pilot charity that was set up to help those in need in places where hang glider and paraglider pilots fly.

“Last year, we created a relationship with the orphanage below the launch,” said Nick, “by buying a water tank so that the children didn’t have to walk across a busy highway several times a day to retrieve water from a rank water source.”

The Cloudbase Foundation also funds teachers’ salaries and meals for the children at the orphanage. Read more about the Cloudbase Foundation in Ghana here.

This year Nick wants to help continue the work the foundation started last year, and hopes pilots might dig deep. “One hundred percent of the funds donated go directly out to the projects,” he said.

“Please take a minute to consider this very local and visible project that we are helping to flourish and consider this as an option for giving this year.”

Donations can be made directly through the Cloudbase Foundation.
