Aeros Combat 13.5GT

Saturday 18 June, 2011

Ukrainian firm Aeros have completed their new competition hang glider, the Combat 13.5 GT, and it’s on sale.

The glider 1s 13.5m2, hence the name, with a 10.7m wingspan and an aspect ratio of 8.5. Its high aspect ratio is possible in part due to the pitch-stabilising effects of its tail, ensuring it handles well.

The wing’s high aspect ratio translates to improved glide at all speeds. The movable CG (centre of gravity) means it has a higher top speed, too.

Aeros say, “The 13.5 has been successfully tested in Germany on the DHV vehicle, with sprog settings surprisingly low, lower than our other gliders; the pitch-up moment on the Combat 13.5 GT is much higher than any of our other gliders with tails”.

It will complement the existing Combat 09 range, not replace any of the gliders in it, so pilots can choose the optimum glider for their preferences and weight.
