The Guatemala Maya Open hang gliding competition takes place from 4-10 March 2012, when cross country conditions in the country are said to be optimal.
The event is an FAI Cat 2 footlaunch compeition for class 1 and sport class hang gliders.
New competitors are invited to take part in the coaching sessions, whereby an experienced competitor will analyse the tasks with them and run evening debrief sessions. An additional fee of $50 will be charged for this service.
Tasks will be around the 50km mark, and could be one-way routes, out-and-returns or triangles.
One of three sites will be used for the competition, to be decided two days before the competition starts, according to the weather forecast. All three are within one to four hours’ drive from Guatemala airport.
The entry fee for the event is $200, and you can apply online using the form here.
The fee includes transfers to and from the airport, shuttle to launch and retrieve, a mobile phone for use during the event, welcome and awards parties and lunch packs. The organisers will also assist with hotel reservations if required.
