The Crossalps is a German hike and fly competition. Nicknamed the ‘Poor Man’s X-Alps’, the objective is to achieve the longest out-and-return from the Bavarian town of Grainbach, by foot or paraglider, in a weekend, starting 8am on the Saturday and finishing at 5pm on the Sunday. Pilots have to have flown a minimum of 20% of the distance.
Nova Juniors pilot Paul Guschlbauer won this year’s event, which tool place 27 – 28 June, despite admitting to having never walked more than 20 kilometres before! The 25 year old flew the greatest distance of the event on his Nova Factor (about 20 km, an achievement considering the delightful combination of rain, couds and thunderstorms the weather had to offer) and the second greatest distance walked.
