Nobody has it as bad as Gavin McClurg at the moment. Hopelessly addicted to base he’s been on a cross country rampage through the States this season, at one point flying almost 1,000km in three flights in one week.
The result was he grabbed the foot-launched US XC record, but was still left lusting for more.
Reaching into his soul he grabs a handful of his heart and lays it out on the page. “Look!” he says, “This is what cross country flying has done to me!”
Stronger than any drug, more exhilarating than any other sport, more addictive than any other passion, flying XC is Gavin’s reason to be right now.
I can no longer pretend that my addiction is not completely in control of my life. I can no longer hide behind the obvious facts. The high is so powerful I can’t get enough. Ever. Never ever, EVER enough.
Coming down gets harder and harder to handle. I think its causing long-term physical and emotional damage. So I keep going for the high.
I can’t think of anything else while I’m awake, and I can’t dream of anything else when I’m asleep. I’m in deep and I need help.
