In issue 40 we reported that South African school Flying Unlimited were designing and manufacturing a new frame to “make paragliding affordable again”. The plan was to make an inexpensive frame for instructors and students to use in their school, and it was to be called the Spider.
Word from South Africa is that, “We have all the niggles finally sorted out with our production and are now geared for bigger and better things”. The SpiderworkX Spider frames are now in production and shipping internationally.
The photos here show the frame with the Simonini adapter plate fitted, but it can also be used with Polini motors, and will be supplied with the required plate for your dealer to bolt the required motor and propeller onto. The throttle cable, fuel line and electrical connections can then be coupled to the Engine.
Frames destined for South Africa can be shipped with the motor already fitted.
The frame Struts and cage parts have their own transport bags for protection.
The company say,
We have sent these pictures so you can see what the frame is all about. We will still stitch the rope sections together and tidy them up a little. The harness is not included in these pictures purely to show off the frame detail.
You can see we have taken every care to supply the PPG market a top class and quality product. Extensive flight tests have been going on for a few months now and the spider has not failed one of them yet.
We found that it would make a great first motor frame for newcomers to the sport but in addition, I am hard-pressed to think they would ever give it up for something else after having flown it for the first time!
We at Flying Unlimited are proud to offer this product from Spiderworks to the Paramotor community.
The frame retails in South Africa for R27,500 (around 1,840 Euros). It will be a little more overseas due to import costs.
