Tom de Dorlodot and moviemaker Shams are to be the headline speakers at this year’s Kendal Mountain Festival Free-Flight Session in the UK on 20 November.

One of the world’s foremost professional pilots, Tom de Dorlodot is known as a Red Bull X-Alps pilot and for his Search Project adventures.

He will present a 45-minute audio-visual talk about paragliding in the Karakoram – some of the wildest high-altitude terrain on the planet.

His award-winning film Karakoram Highway was recently released in full online and showcases the scale of the flying in these mountains.

Filmmaker Shams is a director of some stunning free-flight films. A passionate adventurer who left his job to follow his dream, his vision of flying has been shared by millions around the world.

Working in often extreme conditions he has followed athletes wherever they go in order to get that perfect shot – from climbing sand dunes at dawn in Tunisia to climbing Kilimanjaro in the middle of the night.

His most recent film, Sounds of Paragliding, racked up over a quarter of a million views in its first four weeks and was chosen as a Vimeo Staff Pick on its release.

Other highlights include the award-winning Chasing Summits about high altitude flying in Pakistan, and the amazing Paragliding Circus, filmed above Annecy in France

Shams will be talking about his work as a flying filmmaker on projects around the world.

The Kendal Mountain Festival is a four day long festival of mountain filmmaking and features talks, displays, films and parties over a long weekend in the heart of England’s scenic Lake District.

The Free Flight Night is supported by Cross Country magazine and Jocky Sanderson and traditionally kicks-off the entire four day event. It is presented by Jocky Sanderson and Cross Country editor Ed Ewing.

It is on Thursday 20 November 2014. Tickets cost £12.50 and are available now through the Kendal Mountain Festival website.
