The last of the three legs that made up the 2014 Slalomania competition was held from 3-5 October in Méréville, northern France. Alex Mateos won the footlaunch category of both the round and the overall competition, by an impressive margin.
Fred Mallard won the trikes category by a very considerable margin (21 points; next-placed Philippe Saradin scored 6).
Fifteen tasks were flown on the 3 and 4 October, Alex Mateos, Jérémy Penone and Pascal Vallée consistently taking the top three places, until disaster struck for Pascal on the fourth task. Following a big collapse he crashed in onto his left shoulder, dislocating it and possibly ending his season early. He says, “The collapse was caused by several factors, notably passing through my own wake, being on the speedbar and the beginnings of thermal activity (11am).”
While Pascal had to sit out the rest of the event, Alex and Jérémy continued to take first and second place. The third spot was hard-fought, eventually resting in the hands of Julien Meyer.
