Advance have launched a brand new glider – the Iota. Pitched as a high-end EN B wing “for the ambitious XC pilot” it is due out in January 2015.

Announcing the new wing Advance said the glider was a “semi-lightweight” wing, weighing in at only 4.45kg for the small size 23. Aspect ratio is 5.5.

Promising “the most accommodating balance of performance and security” Advance said that weight reduction measures within the internal structure also meant improved takeoff characteristics and increased passive safety.

Describing the handling of the wing as “direct” Advance say the new Iota series fits between their Epsilon (EN B) and Sigma (EN C) series.

They said: “Further technological innovations are to be found in the details. An Air Scoop leading edge significantly enhances stall resistance behaviour, and the precisely engineered double-3D-shaping gives the wing surface the perfect finish for maximum performance.”

Advance is known for its “deliberately restrained” product range so a new series of glider from them is a big thing.

The company says its philosophy is to invest a lot of resources into relatively few models so that the gliders that reach the market are “fully matured and finished – to the last detail”.

Advance’s Valéry Chapuis said, “Ever more pilots now seek C category performance coupled with the potential security of a B certified wing: and the new Iota offers exactly that.

“Within the spread of the Advance palette this wing takes its place between the dynamic and lively sport class Sigma 9 and the exceptionally compact basic-intermediate Epsilon 7.”

The Iota has been certified EN B in four sizes – 23, 26, 28 and 30 – and will come in five colour scheme.
