Donate to the Karma Flights Earthquake Relief Fund
Paraglider pilots in Nepal are appealing for donations to help victims of the earthquake that hit the country on 25 April.
Isabella Messenger, a tandem pilot who lives in Pokhara, is coordinating a local relief effort that is helping victims in remote villages close to the famous flying site of Sarangkot.
Although Pokhara escaped relatively lightly from the earthquake that hit, many of the more remote villages have seen substantial damage, with many people injured and in need of immediate medical attention.
Isabella, a well known pilot on the international competition and flying scene, is appealing for cash donations from pilots around the world to help get aid into the villages right now.
She is coordinating relief efforts including medical doctors and mountain rescue personnel on the ground.
The country has been declared an international disaster zone, with 500,000 people displaced and 5,000 killed. Poor weather has hampered relief efforts since the 7.8 earthquake hit on Saturday 25 April, with aftershocks and landslides compounded by heavy rain in the mountains.
The simplest way for pilots who want to donate is through the Karmaflights website. Karma Flights is a paragliding charity that works in tandem with the Cloudbase Foundation in Nepal.
The easiest way to donate is through the PayPal link on the Karmaflights website. You don’t need a PayPal account – only a debit or credit card.
