Maxime Bellemin was winner of the Bornes to Fly hike-and-Fly race 2015, crossing the goal line on foot on the third day of the three-day event that kicked off on the shores of France’s lake Annecy on 15 May 2015.
Second in were tandem pair Lorène and Guillaume Kapjr (FR), also on foot, with twenty-year-old Martin Beaujouan the first pilot to fly across the finish line in third place overall.
Participants experienced the full range of weather conditions the French Alps in May have to offer. Sixty teams ran under the starting arch in pouring rain at 3pm on 15 May, the kick-off having been delayed by several hours as organisers recognised that 12 hours in torrential rain isn’t the best fun one could have on a bank holiday weekend.
Snow, wind and sunshine were also thrown into the mix. Both the second and third days were flyable, though stable conditions and low cloud limited cross-country potential on day two.
The top five placed teams were as follows, with the tracklogs still being checked at the time of writing and official results to be announced soon.
1. Maxime Bellemin (FR) / Assistant Laurie Genovese
2. Lorene / Guillaume Kapjr (FR) / Assistant Rosanne Lecar – also first-placed tandem team
3. Martin Beaujouan (FR) / Assistant Aurélie Badet
4. Julien Irilli (FR)
5. Eric Rehnfeldt (SE)
