A $1,000 prize pot is up for grabs at one of the sport’s longest-running fun spot-landing competitions.
Canada’s Lakeside Event is now in its 39th year and attracts hang glider and paraglider pilots to what is billed as “Canada’s longest-running light aviation meet”.
Pilots launch from Mount Swansea, Invermere, British Columbia and descent to a target on the beach next to Lake Windermere. Those who make the target (actually a paddling pool full of water) are in with a chance of winning first place prize of $250.
As well being a fun day out for pilots, it’s great for spectators too. Acro demonstrations also keep the pace up.
The Lakeside Event is on 8 August, with 9 August reserved as a bad weather day. Applications are still open – it costs $60 to take part, which includes “transport, dinner and pancakes”.
