Triton 2 Light: Nova’s X-Alps wing now available

Thursday 23 July, 2015

Nova Triton 2 Light

Nova’s 2015 X-Alps wing, as used by their athletes in the race, is now available to buy in three sizes, certified EN C for the S and M sizes, or CCC for the XS.

It’s based on the Triton 2 but lighter, and trimmed to give maximum performance for minimum weight – it’s just 3.4kg in the XS size.

Working on the philosophy that simplicity means durability, only the nose area is fitted with rods, and these are tiny needle-eye rods that add little to the glider’s weight. There is no need for a concertina bag either when packing this wing, say Nova. The lower sail and large parts of the upper sail are made from 27g/m2 cloth, and the vulnerable nose area from thicker 32g/m2 material.

The accelerator travel has been extended on size XS wings (EN-CCC certification), but Nova say their Air Scoop keeps it nicely pressurised when accelerated. Its moderate flat aspect ratio of 6.4 makes it predictable and easy to handle in flight.

Thin Liros PPSL 191 lines and an optimised finish have resulted in a tangible performance increase in comparison with the Triton 2, say Nova. The risers, which are made from 12mm Aramid, are simpler to handle and don’t twist.
