2015 saw the birth of a new UK flying festival – Parafest took place on 14-17 June in Llangollen, North Wales and was a great success.
Tickets sold out a month beforehand, but a typically British pre-weekend weather forecast for torrential rain kept some potential revellers at home – although in the end the weekend was dominated by sunshine and light winds, and the 150 pilots who attended enjoyed three flyable days.
500 attendees made for a buzzing festival atmosphere, and there was plenty to do and see with stalls and displays, a children’s area and nine live bands who played over the course of the weekend – day and evening.
While paramotorists flew from the site all weekend, paraglider pilots did so on the Sunday, but the wind direction on the Saturday meant a short drive for some glorious coastal soaring and sea views on the Saturday.
Parafest will be back in 2016 – dates to be announced.
