Skywalk Cayenne 5, EN C

Skywalk Cayenne 5 review

Pat Dower discovers an agile climber and seductive performer at the top of the C class

Finding the sweet-spot in paragliding design is both art and science, and I was a little sceptical when I read Skywalk’s introduction to their new EN C wing. “We intentionally made the Cayenne 5 more of a comp wing than its predecessor,” they say.

“Positioned at the upper end of its class, this is a new concept with a higher aspect ratio, more cells and a profile optimised to reduce drag. The result is a sport class glider that sets new standards for performance, precision and dynamics.”

Skywalk are based just north of the Bavarian Alps and test a lot in the flatlands, which might explain why their wings have a reputation for climbing exceptionally well in both weak as well as strong lift.

Their wings also have had a tendency to feature long soft brakes and I’d heard rumours that the Cayenne 4 could be on the lively side.

The full review is in Cross Country 166, Dec 2015 / Jan 2016.
