Stodeus, the team that brought us the solar-powered BipBip micro vario, are now shipping their much anticipated GPSBip.
It’s just as small and light as the BipBip and still solar powered, but as its name sugests it’s equipped with a GPS unit and tracker. During your flight, the GPSBip’s firmware records IGC and KML tracks.
It sounds similar to the BipBip, and customisable using the GPSBip Configurator web-app.
You can connect your leGPSBip to your tablet or Kobo, which can display data from the GPS, barometer, accelerometer and gyro. A GPSBip Connectivity webpage has been set up, giving instructions on how to do this.
The GPSBip is currently compatible with the Kobo mini, Kobo glo /gloHD and Kobo touch 2.0, and connectivity to Android smartphones and tablets will be available soon.
You can connect your GPSBip to a tablet, and power it from LeSolarPad solar USB battery, which is now available in orange as well as green to match the GPSBip
The various components, such as the battery, the speaker, and the solar cell, can be easily replaced by the user thanks to quick connectors, and the product is under warranty for two years.
The GPSBip also has a spoken readout – tap twice on the device/helmet to get spoken altitude and speed.
