Little Cloud have unveiled the third version of their Goose, a fun and playful wing with precise handling and the passive safety a low aspect-ratio wing affords.
It’s made for cross-country flying, and its light weight and low pack size make it great for vol-bivouac outings too. It’s aimed at EN-C level pilots.
The Goose concept is simple: optimising performance without any compromise on safety and fun!
The Goose MK3 has a modest aspect ratio of 5.5, long brake travel (60-65cm) and pitches very little.
We tested higher aspect ratio protos on the same base, but we realise that the performance benefit was way too less compare to the loss of peace of mind!
It has been aerodynamically optimised to improve its performance and feedback. A lot of work has gone into its sweeping wingtips:
We kept the same base (plan form, profile) of the Mk2, but focused on the wingtips. Tom added 3 cells per side in order to get a better profile definition (cells width reduction). On the first prototypes, this was showing some interesting results. The next steps were to change the tips shape into something more “pointy” in order to reduce lift and open slightly the arch (This artificially increase the flat AR -increase of the span due to the pointer tips- but keeps the large brake travel maintaining high passive safety level). This was it!
LC say the Goose MK3’s improved feedback through the brakes has really aided its thermalling abilities.
It’s available in four sizes, for all-up weights from 55-120kg. The 20m² version has been trimmed slightly faster, to optimise the speed for pilots under 60kg.
