From personal, recent experience I disagree that the Spiral Dive is always the best method for descending from strong Cu Nimb cloud suck. My vario recorded a maxium ascent of 14m/s and even after I locked the spiral dive as much I could tolerate before I would black out my vario was still sounding a climb. After just under a minute I exited the Spiral 40 metres higher and just nosing the base of the cloud. I pulled my outer As in 3 times and to my seat and applied full spead bar where my climb reduced down to 0.1m/sec for 5 minutes until I push out into a sink hole and cored that to the ground. A spiral will keep you in the same position UNDER THE LIFT band.
