Coupe Icare 2017

Every September for the last 43 years, the Chartreuse region of France has hosted the Coupe Icare flying festival. This year will make it 44, and the dates to note are Thursday 21 September to Sunday 24th.

This finale to the 2017 European season promises all the fun and packed schedule of previous events, with a huge trade show (Cross Country magazine will be there), fancy-dress fly-in, air displays, paramotor racing, film festival, food tent, street theatre, kids’ activities and a whole lot more.

Bring the family and come along for a four-day social and all-things-flying binge.

Acro Master Paragliding – Saint Leu
Oct 25 – Oct 29 all-day


Between 25 and 29 October 2017, 16 of the world’s top acro pilots will be battling it out over the beautiful island of La Réunion, pulling their best acro moves in a bid to be named ‘2017 Master Acro Pilot’

Pilots will be dropped by helicopter into the flight arena above St leu bay, where they will perform in full view of spectators.

PWC Ecuador 2017

The fifth round of the PWC tour for 2017 takes pilots to Ecuador, to Guayaquil.

South African Pre-PWC 2017 @ Porterville

The Kaapse Buitepos Club and Cape Nomads will host the 2017 South African Pre-PWC Porterville Paragliding Open, an FAI sanctioned CAT2 event.

The seven day event will run from 10-16 December 2017, with no rest days. 9 December will be an official practice day; 8 December will be an unofficial practice day.

Porterville is known as Africa’s premier summer flying and XC competition site and has hosted several South African Nationals, two Pre-PWC’s (2011 & 2012) and a PWC (2013).

PWC Superfinal 2017, Colombia

The 2017 PWC tour’s Superfinal takes place from 9 January 2018 in the super-friendly Roldanillo, Colombia.

Corryong PG Open 2018
Jan 14 – Jan 21 all-day

Fly Mt Ellliot, one of Australia’s best alpine flying sites, from 14-21 January 2018 in the Corryong Paragliding Open.

Corryong is located just a few thermal glides from Mt Kosciuszko, the highest mountain in Australia, close to where the very first Australian Paragliding Nationals were hosted in Thredbo in 1990.

Monarca Paragliding Open 2018 @ Valle de Bravo

Fly the famous Valle de Bravo – the perfect place to escape the northern winter blues. The thermals never stop here, with convergence to 4,000m and stunning flying every day.

New Zealand PG Open 2018
Jan 28 – Feb 4 all-day

The New Zealand PG Open will be held from 28 January – 4 February 2018.

The competition is to be held in the mountains surrounding Wanaka. Expect everything… lakes, glaciers, open valleys, steep mountains, native forest, extreme wilderness. The diversity is what makes flying in Wanaka so special.

European Paraglider Convention 2018 @ Europa Park
Feb 2 – Feb 4 all-day

European Paraglider Convention 2018

From 2 to 4 February 2018, the first ever European Paraglider Convention will take place in 2,000m² of exhibition halls at the Europapark in Rust, Germany.

Despite its title, the EPC is aimed at hang glider and PPG pilots as well as paragliders. It will comprise a huge trade show, plus lectures and training events and the event will occupy more than 2,000m² of exhibition space.

Bright Open 2018 (PG)
Feb 10 – Feb 16 all-day

The Bright Open, is a 7 day XC paragliding competition which will run from 10-16 February, 2018. This competition is HGFA AAA and FAI Cat 2

Organisers say:

We are based around the Mystic Flight Park in Bright which has hosted numerous national and international competitions including PWC event.

For pilot selection the top 50 from the previous season’s Aussie ladder will be invited to pay first.

PWC Australia 2018, Bright (PG)
Feb 17 – Feb 24 all-day

PWC Bright 2018

Bright, Australia, hosts the first round of the 2018 Paragliding World Cup series from 17-24 February 2018.

HQ will be the Alpine Community Center in Bright township, and organisers say the majority of competition activities will based around the Mystic Flight Park in Bright, with a flight arena covering Ovens and Keiwa region.

Entry to the competition is via  the PWCA pilot registration and entry system and subject to places allocated by the PWCA. Pilots are invited to complete the registration process at Competitor Places will be allocated from 17th December 2017, in accordance with PWCA Pilot Ranking.

This competition  will provide transport to launch and retrieve services for all competition pilots and accredited personnel. No unofficial vehicles will be permitted at launch on these sites.
