Cross Country Magazine Tuesday Tip

This week's tip is from Chrigel Maurer, who is interviewed in the new book Cross Country Flying

How do you search for thermals?

You need a good imagination and good understanding of the weather processes that are working.

Years ago, when I was in the Swiss Junior Challenge, I learnt from Martin Scheel that you should picture the ground below you on its head, and imagine where droplets of water would drip off it.

This is how I imagine where thermals will release. When I let these water drops be blown by the wind, then I see how the thermals drift. I do this all the time.
