From September, UP’s Trango X-Light, the wing that Alex Hofer flew to second place in the Red Bull X-Alps this year, will be available for all ambitious cross country and bivouac pilots.
Built using tried and tested yet lightweight materials, with Porcher Skytex 36g/m wherever possible and Skytex 40g/m for the high-stress areas, UP say the wing is “light yet strong, and with the performance of a winner”.
Alex Hofer explains the philosophy behind this type of wing: “Ordinary Open-Class wings are built for the extreme demands of the PWC in terms of performance and speed. Not so in the Red Bull X-Alps, where it is all about flying far. An X-Alps wing must launch perfectly in any and all circumstances, and it must be easy to control in even the trickiest of conditions. It is all about getting all the compromises right; tiny trade-offs in perfomance may, as is the case here, make huge differences in terms of launchability, handling and reactions to collapses”. The Trango X-Lite is load tested.
