St Hilaire du Touvet in France hosted the 3rd annual winter Coupe Icare speed riding and fancy dress extravaganza over the last weekend of January, and a great time was certainly had by all!
36 speed riders prepared costumes and good humour, and rocked up to St Hilaire du Touvet’s ski resort on the Friday. The weather played ball, allowing a slalom leg that afternoon, following a morning of intense activity by the Parateam club and friends to get everything ready. Snow fell in the evening as the guests enjoyed a sociable evening meal, the winter film festival and a DJ until the small hours.
Saturday morning the wind was strong, but there was plenty of fresh snow to be tracked. By late morning the wind had dropped, and a slalom speed riding round was held, parallel slalom in the afternoon.
If you could have scored well on the Saturday with no fancy dress, Sunday was different. The overall rankings depended on a good costume, and Eric Viola was the eventual overall winner ahead of Bertrand Chatain.
