The long wait for Advance‘s new high-performance paraglider, the Omega 8, is almost over. There will be four sizes, which will be certified EN/LTF D, and the flight tests of the two middle sizes have already been completed. Dealers should be receiving the first test wings around now.

Advance say the Omega 8 builds on the proven three-line concept of the 2009 World Champion’s glider and the X-Alps prototypes. With an aspect ratio of 6.8 and a useable top speed of 59 km/h they claim it is the best performer in its class, its trump card being its smooth and efficient speed system and reassuring stability for accelerated flight in rough air.

Advance say they have reduced the weight of the wing to around 6 kg (27 size) thanks to a new structure, a careful mix of materials, and nylon wires in the leading edge. With a more compact weave and an additional coating the unsheathed Liros competition lines have been made more UV-and abrasion-resistant. They are sheathed at loops in the forks, for extra protection.

Advance describe the Omega 8′s take-off behaviour as “impressively agreeable” for its class, and its performace as exceptional, whilst benefiting from Advance handling. They do, however, stress that it is intended for highly experienced, performance-oriented cross country or competition pilots with previous experience of performance gliders.

the Omega 8 comoes in a choice of three new colours, and Advance say its sporty and elegant design is sure to turn heads!
