The ‘mother of all dogfights’ is due to take place in the skies over the Long Mynd in England next spring. Hugh Miller explains:
In August 2010, Jim Mallinson and Hugh Miller wrote to Jocky Sanderson to challenge him to a paragliding sporting contest. Jim and Hugh invited Jocky to assemble a squadron of 30 Northern paragliding pilots to do battle with their own squadron of 30 Southern Aces to decide which half of the realm is home to Great Britain’s best pilots.
It is our solemn duty to declare that Jocky Sanderson has indeed accepted this challenge, and that therefore, this country is in a State of War. The squadrons will muster in Shropshire, 13-15 May 2011 to do battle, and the race is now on to enlist the country’s finest pilots.
The contest will be XC based, with a new set of tasks including bombing runs and dogfights. Pie eating competitions and tug of war ropes will be uncurled should foul weather arrive. To enlist, signal your interest to your respective Squadron Leader as soon as possible.
Each team will have a number of rising stars and there will be a strong mentoring ethos in place. Therefore entries will be favoured from experienced pilots wishing to team up and mentor a fledgling competition pilot.
Entries close 31 January 2011 with selection soon after! More, including contact details, here.
Organiser: Hugh Miller.
