The second International Women’s Paragliding Open is to be held in the beautiful Àger valley in northern Spain from 28 August to 3 September 2011. It will follow immediately after the Paragliding World Cup.
The first all-women comp held last year was a great success, and the organisers, a team of experienced women comp pilots lead by Nicky Moss (GB), expect many of the pilots to come back again for a second time.
There are places for 125 pilots, and pilots of all levels are invited. Pilots need an IPPI 4 rating and to have been in at least one FAI Cat II competition before.
To check the qualification criteria visit the Registration page on the competition website. Organisers add that there might be “some leeway” for pilots who want to attend but don’t meet the basic requirements. “Just ask us!” said Nicky.
Local experts will be onhand to advise the task setting committee on realistic and challenging tasks, appropriate for the conditions. Other experienced comp pilots will also be mentoring those with less experience.
The event costs €175 to enter if paid before 30 June. After that it is €195.
Nicky said, “This is a truly international meet, and an opportunity for women pilots to meet other women in the sport.”
At the time of writing, pilots from 10 different countries were already signed up to take part. Prizes include a Flymaster vario and Drift Innovations digital helmet camera.
