Niviuk are to release their super-lightweight single-skin paraglider, the Skin and its even lighter sister, the Skin Plume, in April 2015.
They say the single-skinners have the performance of standard gliders, are as easy to fly as school wings and inflate effortlessly, even in nil wind.
Designed for hike-and-fly adventures, Niviuk say you can also thermal them and they have a “surprising” glide and a good speed range, with 12cm travel available on the speedbar. They also say they have a “really short and progressive” take-off and a good speed range.
The wings are reinforced with Nitinol (nickel titanium), and the leading edges have five closed cells which helps reinforce the overall structure and disperse airflow evenly.
The Skin is very light, 2.3kg in the smallest 16m2 size, and the Skin Plume is, well, featherweight at 1.5kg in the 16m2 size.
Both models are available in three sizes (16,18 and 20), and each is available in two colour choices (the Plume colours are different to the standard ones).
